Does Setting Up a Company in Bahrain Give You Residence?

Investor residence and the Golden Residency

Short answer: Yes. A foreign investor who owns a company registered in Bahrain can obtain an investor residence permit linked to that company. Residence conditions, duration, fees and family sponsorship are regulated entirely by the Nationality, Passports and Residence Affairs. The 10-year Golden Residency is a separate route.

Investor residence through a company

  • It depends on an active commercial registration in the investor's name.

  • It follows the company: if the CR is cancelled or the investor exits, the permit is affected.

  • Residence conditions, duration, fees and family sponsorship are regulated entirely by the Nationality, Passports and Residence Affairs.

Golden Residency

A separate 10-year route, regulated entirely by the Nationality, Passports and Residence Affairs, and not tied to company formation with the Ministry of Industry and Commerce.

The practical difference

The investor permit suits someone who will actually run a business, and it lasts only as long as the company does. The Golden Residency suits someone seeking longer-term stability who meets one of its criteria.

Common mistakes

  • Setting up a company with no real activity just for residence, which exposes both the CR and the permit to scrutiny.

  • Letting the CR lapse, which affects the permit in turn.

Frequently asked questions

Do I get residence as soon as the company is formed? Formation opens the way to apply for an investor permit; the application is made after the CR is issued and is subject to the authorities' conditions.

Does the Golden Residency require a company? Not necessarily; its categories are independent of company ownership.
